In the 1970s, Rolex began using more robust sapphire crystals on their watches. Known as "transitional" models, early examples were fitted with matte dials similar to those of the preceding plastic-glass watches, although many were replaced during service.
This excellent example of the 16800 Submariner Date still features its original matte dial, showcasing a beautiful soft-yellow patina on the hour plots that enhances the vintage charm of this now collectible neo-vintage Rolex. The bezel insert has faded to a lovely blue color, and the case remains strong with thick lugs.
The solid link Oyster bracelet, reference 93150, is in very good condition and has a clasp stamped "H 3." The watch has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
